Thank you volunteers for helping spruce up 'Scots Field'

Thank you to all the families, friends, players and supporters of the Bluestar Scots U-14 fastpitch softball team who came out for four hours on Sunday morning, March 1, to help spruce up "Scots Field," also known as the Aldercrest Annex ballfield. The volunteer work party continued their upkeep by pulling grass, leveling out some uneven spots, picking out pebbles, and doing other small things to keep the ballfield in playing condition.

The team "adopted" the ballfield last year and has been maintaining it ever since. At the start of the 2008 softball season, several Bluestar Scots familes did major reconditioning of the ballfield --mowing and cutting back tall weeds around the fences, building several benches with new material, putting on a fresh coat of paint on the backstop, and smoothing out a major part of the infield.

This year, the Scots continue to upkeep and use the field, playing on it at least three times a week. The Scots U-10 team will also be using the field for their practices at least three times a week. With other sports teams (baseball, soccer, football) competing for ballfields during the softball season, the use of the 'Scots Field' is a valuable addition for our players.

Note: The North/East Cities Regional Municipal Jail planning group currently is looking at the Aldercrest Annex, where the ballfield is located, as a potential location for a 640-bed jail. There are many excellent reasons why a jail does not belong in this area: it will be close to schools and homes; it will attract criminals, it will increase traffic. But just as important, it will also take away a valuable ballfield that sports teams (like the Bluestar Scots) and other residents use. Welcome to the Scots Blog!!

Hi Bluestar Scots players, families, and friends!

Welcome to this blog, a new communication tool for the Scots Web site. Because of the high amount of spam postings on the old Scots Web site's Guestbook, we took down that feature. It is being replaced with this blog. I hope this will be more useful for everyone. Hopefully, it will control the amount of spammers.

Thanks everyone!

Robert
